Three day trips

Cap Bon works as a loop: Nabeul and its potteries, Kelibia and its fort, then the headland at El Haouaria — allow the whole day, since the point is to stop along the way. To the south-west, Zaghouan and its Water Temple are an hour away, and the Roman site of Dougga takes a little more driving but still fits in a day. To the north, Bizerte and Lake Ichkeul make an easy run up the A4.

Parking in the capital

The centre is a paid-car-park affair: those on Avenue Habib Bourguiba and the streets around Lafayette are the most convenient and best supervised. The medina is not for driving — leave the car at Bab Bhar or Place de la Kasbah. In Les Berges du Lac and La Marsa, street parking is easy during the day and more contested in the evening and at weekends. An informal attendant guiding you into a space and expecting small change is normal here.

Traffic and main routes

Peaks run roughly 7.30–9am and 4.30–7pm, and both the GP1 towards the southern suburbs and the A1 on-ramp clog at those hours: leave plenty of margin for a drop-off or a flight.
